Black British people try to copy the term black American it makes sense for Americans because they don’t know we’re they’re from whereas we do so the term doesn’t make sense for us to use. It just screams low racial self esteem. If a Colombian, Spanish, Portuguese or even Italian girl was born in the uk and held a British passport they would never turn around and say “I’m British” they always say I’m Colombian or I’m Italian but for some weird reason black people in the uk love to scream that they’re British 😂 it’s embarrassing. Quick enough for you or do you need it explained further ?
No, that was an unnecessarily long paragraph, which tells me you don’t know what you are talking about. Now, in terms of the identity “Black British”, it is simply a dual identity; that is it! Please do your research diligently before speaking.
Well that’s because we were born here so we didn’t feel the need to do that, our parents didn’t have anyone else so they had no choice. Even white British people are more individualistic rather than community focused as they have no need. It’s not that hard to understand
first sentence is exactly my problem, which is what i outline 🙏🏾 we aren’t integrated into this society so we ought to continue to prioritise community. my desire isn’t to mimic whiteness so to bring up their individualism is useless information. i’m only focused on strengthening our community.
Oh maybe I can’t relate because the Angolan community is full of strength, even my sisters generation have community and she’s 5 years younger than me we Angolans tend to have each others back and help each other out which we have done so since the 90’s it’s sad that you Ghanaians don’t have that, I wonder what happened with you all to be that way sad, wish you all the best with building your community
you clearly did not read the article because i am not ghanaian. i also explicitly state that saying ‘black british’ does not come at the cost of denying our ethnic backgrounds. why do you have substack if you’re not going to read? God bless
Oh gosh how immature, I did read it but it was three days ago so I tried to remember and thought it was Ghanaian my bad it’s Nigerian still west Africa so not really understanding the crash out and assumption of not reading it. Clearly I read it because my comment had context of the article. Why be a writer on substack if you’re going to be hypersensitive when people disagree? I think the term black British is lame and embarrassing big deal?? and as for you maybe find a new job. Bye.
A lovely read! I do hope we can all form an organic community outside "events" one day.
Also black British is such a dumb term we aren’t American stop forcing it
Quickly, what does being Black British have to do with being American?
quickly!!!
